We are waiting on a part to arrive for our water maker,\u00a0\u00a0so we are heading out to some of our lucky fishing spots while waiting on the part.  It is another beautiful day in Alaska to be out on the water. So far the weather has been much better this year than last season.\u00a0\u00a0It rained almost every day last year.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" day to\u00a0\u00a0our\u00a0\u00a0secret halibut hole outside Pybus Bay on the southern tip of Admiralty Island.\u00a0\u00a0We have always caught halibut here.\u00a0The fishing is slow today.\u00a0\u00a0We overhear several of the Pybus Lodge fishing boats on the VHF complaining of the same.\u00a0\u00a0At least we aren\u2019t the only ones not catching anything.\u00a0\u00a0After an hour of fishing and a tide\/current change, we call it a day with\u00a0only two small halibut aboard.\u00a0\u00a0They won\u2019t fill the freezer but will make for some nice meals this week.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"905\" the night in the well sheltered Henry\u2019s Arm.\u00a0\u00a0Two Petersburg crabbers are here getting ready for the commercial crab season which opens in two days.\u00a0\u00a0In addition to the traps on their boats, they have many more traps ashore that they have pre- staged.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" next day to try once more for a big halibut.&nbsp;&nbsp;It is another slow day.&nbsp;&nbsp;I think we are too early in the season for the halibut.&nbsp;&nbsp;They are probably still down deep at over 200 feet.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;We do&nbsp;&nbsp;manage to catch two more small ones.&nbsp;&nbsp;We had a big one on the line but he was able to shake the lure.&nbsp;&nbsp;Our secret spot continues to produce.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;We anchor for the night in one of our favorite anchorages, Cannery Cove.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" mountains of Admiralty Island&nbsp;&nbsp;provide a beautiful backdrop.&nbsp;&nbsp;We set out two crab traps in hopes of getting some more crabs before the crabbers get here tomorrow for the opening of the commercial season.&nbsp;&nbsp;We easily get our limit of six crabs before nightfall.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" another favorite, is our next destination.&nbsp;&nbsp;Motoring south across Frederick Sound we can see whales feeding in the distance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;&nbsp;Honey Dew is on Kuiu Island.&nbsp;&nbsp;The anchorage has room for only one boat. We let the fish dangle from our line just above the surface as we quickly search the rule book for size restrictions.
