{"id":917,"date":"2014-05-30T17:42:00","date_gmt":"2014-05-30T17:42:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.idylltime.com\/?p=917"},"modified":"2014-05-30T17:42:00","modified_gmt":"2014-05-30T17:42:00","slug":"the-haul-out","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.idylltime.com\/?p=917","title":{"rendered":"The Haul Out"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>There is a knot in my stomach as the lifting straps groan with the strain of Idyll Time\u2019s 65,000 pounds of bulk as she is hoisted out of the water.\u00a0 All eyes are fixed on the boat as she is lifted high in the air and onto hard pavement.<img class=\"ngg-singlepic ngg-center\" src=\"http:\/\/www.idylltime.com\/wp-content\/gallery\/haul-out-spring-2014\/lift-3.jpg\" alt=\"lift-3\" \/>\u00a0 Although we have had this done many times now, it is still nerve wracking each time we have her hauled.\u00a0 George, the lift operator, is very experienced and does a great job of getting her safely placed in the gravel paint yard.\u00a0 After a quick pressure wash, the jack stands are secured under her hull to keep her upright for the next week.\u00a0 Once she is stable, we are allowed back aboard.\u00a0 We will boat camp here in the parking lot for the next week.\u00a0 We do have power and can use the boat shower.\u00a0 The only thing missing is the A\/C as our Cruise Air\u2019s require water for cooling.\u00a0 Boat camping does have its drawbacks.\u00a0 Getting on and off is a little challenging, especially with Sebastian, as we must climb up a ladder placed at our stern each time.<img class=\"ngg-singlepic ngg-center\" src=\"http:\/\/www.idylltime.com\/wp-content\/gallery\/haul-out-spring-2014\/back-in-water-1.jpg\" alt=\"back-in-water-1\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The bottom paint crew first give the hull a soda wash to kill any biological slim.\u00a0 This is followed by a thorough sand blasting of all metal parts below the water line such as rudder, propeller, and scoop covers.<img class=\"ngg-singlepic ngg-center\" src=\"http:\/\/www.idylltime.com\/wp-content\/gallery\/haul-out-spring-2014\/sandblast.jpg\" alt=\"sandblast\" \/>\u00a0 Over the next few days two coats of black bottom paint are applied to the hull.\u00a0 All of the running gear and metal parts get two coats of anti corrosive paint.\u00a0 This is the best paint job that IT has ever had.<img class=\"ngg-singlepic ngg-center\" src=\"http:\/\/www.idylltime.com\/wp-content\/gallery\/haul-out-spring-2014\/prop-2.jpg\" alt=\"prop-2\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Our next project is to replace the seals on both the bow thrusters and hydraulic stabilizers.\u00a0 Although they are working fine, the manufacturer recommends that the seals be replaced every six years.\u00a0 Being eight years old, we are past due for this service.\u00a0 One of the reasons for selecting Dog River for our haul out is that they have been factory trained by ABT\/TRAC, the bow thruster\/stabilizer manufacture, for working on these systems.<img class=\"ngg-singlepic ngg-center\" src=\"http:\/\/www.idylltime.com\/wp-content\/gallery\/haul-out-spring-2014\/paint-back.jpg\" alt=\"paint-back\" \/>\u00a0 Once the seals have been replaced, our stabilizer fins are reattached to the hull.\u00a0 After two coats of paint to the fins, IT is now ready to be put back in the water.<img class=\"ngg-singlepic ngg-center\" src=\"http:\/\/www.idylltime.com\/wp-content\/gallery\/haul-out-spring-2014\/stabalizer.jpg\" alt=\"stabalizer\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>While out of the water, we decided to change out one of IT\u2019s anchors.\u00a0 Over the years, we have discovered that our 88 lb. delta anchor does not always hold.\u00a0 Our smaller 66 lb. Bruce anchor is our go to choice.\u00a0 It has always held even in the hardest of blows.\u00a0 We replace our Delta with an 88 lb. Rocna anchor.\u00a0 This anchor has gotten excellent ratings from the boating community.\u00a0 We were very happy to discover that it fit in the same slot as the Delta without any modifications. We will continue to use the Bruce but it is comforting to know we have the Rocna for heavy duty weather.<img class=\"ngg-singlepic ngg-center\" src=\"http:\/\/www.idylltime.com\/wp-content\/gallery\/haul-out-spring-2014\/out-of-water.jpg\" alt=\"out-of-water\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>One other boat project while here was to rebuild our John Deere water pump.\u00a0 Jeff started noticing a few drops of water leaking from the bottom of the pump.\u00a0 We decided to go ahead and replace the seals before any major problems.\u00a0 At the same time, we ordered a new pump which we will store as a back up.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Our haul out took much longer than anticipated due to weather and marina backlog.\u00a0 We had planned on being out of the water for 5 days but ended up out for two weeks.\u00a0 We feel much better once IT is again afloat.\u00a0 Next is a sea trial with the mechanic to make sure the stabilizers are working properly.\u00a0 After a slight adjustment of the position sensors, the system is good to go.<img class=\"ngg-singlepic ngg-center\" src=\"http:\/\/www.idylltime.com\/wp-content\/gallery\/haul-out-spring-2014\/back-in-water-2.jpg\" alt=\"back-in-water-2\" \/>\u00a0 IT is whole once again and ready for new adventures.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>There is a knot in my stomach as the lifting straps groan with the strain of Idyll Time\u2019s ...<\/p>","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"ngg_post_thumbnail":0},"categories":[1],"tags":[],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"http:\/\/www.idylltime.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/917"}],"collection":[{"href":"http:\/\/www.idylltime.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"http:\/\/www.idylltime.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/www.idylltime.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/users\/1"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/www.idylltime.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcomments&post=917"}],"version-history":[{"count":10,"href":"http:\/\/www.idylltime.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/917\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":928,"href":"http:\/\/www.idylltime.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/917\/revisions\/928"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"http:\/\/www.idylltime.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fmedia&parent=917"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/www.idylltime.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcategories&post=917"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/www.idylltime.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Ftags&post=917"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
